Last night I got the chance to test something, I've wanted to test for a long time: Using PlayStation 3 with mobile broadband.

If you've been reading my blog over the last two or three months, you'd know that I am currently "only" using 3's mobile broadband solution. That is, I have no broadband carried by any land line. I have been considering to buy a mobile broband router like the HUAWEI B970, so that I could get my PlayStation 3 online. But, there's a lot of things that need to be ok, to have a good playing experience: reliability, speed etc. And even though I've been quite pleased with my mobile broadband so far (with exception to the logging problem, but that's a case closed now - if you have that problem, read the articles for a solution), I want to test before I buy.

So, of course, I was thrilled yesterday when I went over to my friends Jesper and David, as they had gotten hold of such a router. Test time! :)

Yesterday we had time to test two things, Buzz and PlayStation Home.

* Buzz
During the Christmas holidays, I had been playing quite a lot of Buzz with my family. So it was of course exciting to see, if the mobile broadband connection could carry the game. I'd had an expectation that it could, since the "Sofa vs. Sofa" mode didn't strike me as a data heavy game. This was confirmed during the test. The game was flawless in execution (we lost to some guy, but I don't think I can blame that on the mobile broadband). Hmmm....

* PlayStation Home
The load time, where I guess the "game" is loading all the scenary, perhaps was a bit long - but not overwhelmingly long. I havn't tested it with normal broadband connection, but I assume it's a bit long in comparison. The execution itself was quite good. People was running and walking around, dancing, however seemingly doing nothing and not saying anything, as if they were on drugs. Maybe they were, I don't know. During a conversation, we lost contact with the PlayStation Home servers, and we were thrown out of the "game".

We had around one hour of flawless game time, before the mobile broadband solution had a hickup in PlayStation Home (that's what we're guessing, by the way). How often that will happen I cannot say. When I come back from Madrid, Jesper, David and I are going to test games, that are a bit more data heavy. So stay tuned! :)
